AMAZING FACTS ABOUT COLORS FOR COLORBLIND PEOPLE. Part 4

Did you know that you see with your brain, not your eyes?

.

.

So guess what happens when you learn colors being Colorblind with people who have normal vision!? It can leave you confused, or worse you will try to escape every color-related task or conversation.

.

That's why we created training for Colorblind people - to help you learn how to select and match colors with less brain-breaking effort.

Let's talk about Rainbows🌈

It all begins with Light...

basically, invisible energy traveling through space

.

For us to see this energy, light must go through dense particles of dust, smoke or water vapor in the form of clouds or mist.

.

A rainbow is caused by sunlight and atmospheric conditions. Light enters a water droplet, slowing down and bending as it goes from air to denser water. That's why we see them after the Rain.

.

Why The Colors?

.

Sunlight is made of many wavelengths - or colors of light. Some of those wavelengths get bent more than others when the light enters the water droplet. Violet is the shortest wavelength of visible Light and bends the most, Red is the longest so bends the least. So when Light exits the water droplet, it's separated into all its wavelengths.

.

Rainbow color order:

Red

Orange

Yellow

Green

Blue

Indigo

Violet

.

Now you can draw your rainbow at home using this color order🌈

Advice for Parents -

“The Talk” With Your Colorblind Child

𝘔𝘺 𝘴𝘰𝘯 𝘸𝘢𝘴 𝘳𝘦𝘤𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘭𝘺 𝘥𝘪𝘢𝘨𝘯𝘰𝘴𝘦𝘥 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘤𝘰𝘭𝘰𝘳 𝘷𝘪𝘴𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘥𝘦𝘧𝘪𝘤𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘺. 𝘏𝘰𝘸 𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘐 𝘦𝘹𝘱𝘭𝘢𝘪𝘯 𝘪𝘵?

.

Most parents of color blind children don’t know that they have a colorblind child and in most cases, the child won’t realize it either. If your child gets a positive diagnosis on the colorblind test, it can come as a shock to everyone.

.

Children normally won’t understand that something like not seeing colors can be a problem, so as a parent, it’s your job to support your child and present color blindness in a good light. You can share with your child how he is different from others and that it’s a good thing; he has a unique vision.

.

Many recent research studies have shown that ‘color blindness’ has a deep effect on a child's psychology, if not treated well. It affects a child's confidence, and self-esteem, and the thought of ‘being different” can lead to a child’s behavioral issues like the feeling of embarrassment and social withdrawal.

.

Often parents mistakenly think that if their child finds out he is colorblind, he will be very upset about the news or might not take it well. Any child counselor can tell you that it’s all about ‘sharing” the news. It’s how you say it or present it to your kid....

5 Tips For Teachers/Schools with Colorblind Students.

1) The first step is getting to know and understand what colorblind students can and cannot see (parents and students will help you)

.

2) Lighting is important. Bright, low, inside, or natural light can affect color recognition. The brighter the light the easier it is to recognize color. Seat colorblind children in good natural Light and square onto the board, but avoid glare.

.

3) Teach color deficient students the color of Common Objects. Knowing what color things are can help students in daily tasks (grass is Green, Bananas are Yellow, etc)

.

4) Label all craft items that have color, like markers, crayons and paper. So the child will not fall behind in art, or struggle, make sure everything is appropriately marked.

.

5) Writing in Black on a whiteboard instead of using colors. Avoid yellow, Orange, or light tan chalk on Green chalkboards.

Tips For Better Living - Color Blindness

DRIVING: you may not see color the same way non-colorblind people do, but you still see color. Top color =stop

Middle = slow down

Bottom = go

.

SHOPPING: shopping for clothing can be frustrating, but there are certain apps you can use to help you identify the shade (color) of clothing, like ColorGrab. When you get home, you can label your clothes and arrange your closet (what should go with what). You can ask a trusted friend to help you or arrange by colors or shades you see

.

GROCERY STORE: use smell and touch to determine ripeness rather than color. And don't be afraid to ask for help :)

.

WORK: speaking up in the workplace is also beneficial if you are colorblind. Colorful charts and graphs can make following a presentation difficult. Microsoft has tools for designing color-blind-friendly PowerPoint slides.

.

HOME: if your child is colorblind, you can organize dresser drawers by color. Dedicate each drawer to a specific color, and label them accordingly. That way your kid will know which shirt matches which pants.

.

COOKING: avoid relying on color to determine if something is cooked. Use a thermometer to get a more accurate read.
